SELF HYPNOSIS FOR MUSICIANS

The Ultimate Self-Help CD for all Musicians

The Subconscious Mind

To understand how and why hypnosis works you first need to understand that we have two 'minds': the Conscious and the Unconscious (often called the SUB-conscious mind).

Like the iceberg, we are only aware of a tiny percentage of our minds at any given time. We are conscious of the conscious mind, and un-conscious of the subconscious.

  • The Conscious Mind:

Everything you are aware of at any one moment - ie not very much! Ie:

  • These words, as you speak them in your mind's ear.
  • The vision of the computer monitor.
  • Not much else, really.

  • We can only be truly conscious of up to seven bits of information at any one time - any more and we get hopelessly confused!
    • The Unconscious (or Subconscious) Mind:
Everything that you are UN-aware of at any moment - ie a hell of a lot!
    For example:

  • The noise your computer's fan,
  • The feeling of your sock on your right foot
  • The memory of your first bicycle
  • The faint taste of coffee
  • Your heartbeat
  • Millions and millions of other things...

  • Your beliefs about yourself are stored in your unconscious- eg:

    • I cant sight read
    • I always get nervous
    • The bass-player intimidates me
    • I always fail auditions

Its the beliefs we hold about our musical ability that we need to change. Here's how:

When the brain becomes very relaxed it enters 'Theta Brain-Wave' state called Trance. In this state the 'critical' function of the conscious mind is disabled, and suggestions are accepted by the unconscious. Our unconscious mind has an elaborate 'alarm system' and it will not accept, or act upon, an un-ethical suggestion.

Mel M. USA It really does work!Wow, this is amazing. I stumbled across your site by accident and although I was sceptical, I bought the CD to get rid of my severe stage fright. Out of curiosity I used the turbo practicing track because I am ridiculously lazy. Half an hour later I was practicing my viola (which is a rarity) and I was practicing with so much patience and precision that within an hour I could play things that usually I would pass off as impossible and just fumble my way through. Hopefully the confidence track will have an equally successful result, but I'll find out in a couple of weeks.
