The CD is undoubtedly the most comprehensive self hypnosis program ever devised specifically for musicians. However, there are bound to be specific areas of your own experience that you might care to improve or change which are not covered. It would be totally feasible to compile a playlist where the induction is taken off of the CD and then the suggestions are read in by yourself using some suitable audio recording software. You would then finish off, as always, with the 'outro' track from the CD.
The language that you use in your suggestions is critical. The subconscious mind is extremely literal and the slightest slip up might prevent the changes from taking hold. The rule is this: always be P.P.P.P
P for Positive, P for Present, P for Precise, and P for Passionate!
"From this moment on I play the trumpet beautifully every time I play." This is correct and will work. "I never play badly any more." This is incorrect and will, if anything, reinforce the fact that you play badly! Never, I repeat, NEVER even mention the negative!
"I am a fluent reader" is correct because it is an affirmation of what you are. The subconscious will accept this suggestion whilst in hypnosis in the same way as a subject in a hypnotic stage show will believe that he or she IS a chicken/Napoleon/a ballet dancer etc. "Every time I play I will always play in tune". This is unlikely to have much effect because, as they say, 'tomorrow never comes'! You always 'WILL' play in tune but not necessarily NOW!
Do not be to vague or wishy-washy about what you want to achieve, and do not ask for too much at once. Saying: "I sight read perfectly. I play fast passages fluently, I remain calm at all times. I am a non-smoker" will totally overload the subconscious if all delivered at once. Be specific. One topic at a time, please!
In other words use colourful adjectives to make the suggestions irresistible to the subconscious mind. 'Dynamic' 'wonderful' 'brilliant' 'fantastic' 'superb' etc etc. Lay it on with a trowel!
Also, do not make the sentences to long and wordy. Keep it snappy, and use rhythm to reinforce the point: "I am calm when I play. I am relaxed when I play. I am tranquil when I play. I am in control when I play. I am musical when I play. I am creative when I play... " I think you get the point.
The points above are only the start. I encourage you to investigate the subtle art of hypnotic language patterns. Dont just use them for making hypnosis tapes, you will find them very effective in everyday life when comunicating with people around you. If, like me, you prefer to either win or avaoid arguments, start using the language patterns developed from NLP and hypnosis every day!
