Sam A Brown is a professional drummer/percussionist/arranger currently residing in the South West of England.
According to his mother he was a 'knife and fork drummer' from an early age, and whilst still at school found himself playing drums and trombone in local bands, pit orchestras and studios. In 1982 He applied for and was subsequently awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.

Whilst at Berklee he studied Drums and Percussion whilst working towards his Commercial Arranging Degree, spending most of his time writing for everything from Barbershop Quartet to Full Studio Orchestra. It was here that Sam studied psychology on the college's general electives program.
Having graduated Sam returned to the UK and worked his way up through the ranks of the jazz and blues scene. At this time he wound up playing with musicians such as Georgie Fame, Zoot Money and Alan Price.
Continued research into performance anxiety, hypnosis and NLP resulted in the production of the self-help CD Self Hypnosis for Musicians in 1994. The CD sells from his website www.sambrown.co.uk, through the Jazzwise and Aebersold Catalogues, and through Amazon.com.
His growing reputation as a fine, versatile drummer led to gigs on the London Jazz scene with Jim Mullen, Guy Barker, Sax Appeal, Barbara Thompson, Alan Barnes, Don Weller, Mornington Lockett, Gerard Presencer, Alan Skidmore, Jon Etheridge and Bobby Wellins to name a few. He was also in demand as a session player working for personalities such as Bruce Forsyth, Kenny Lynch and Jimmy Tarbuck.

Whilst continuing to pursue his career in performing he has taken time out to teach both privately, at colleges and on residential courses. This wealth of experience as a teacher, coupled with his research into the psychology of learning and performing music has inspired him to develop the iPhone App version of the CD. The 'Musicians Hypnosis' App is in the App Store, often in the music section's 'What's Hot' listing. Also often listed here is his other iPhone app 'Drum Secrets' - a valuable tutorial program for beginners and pros alike.
Throughout the Nineties Sam toured internationally with Israeli Saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and with Digby Fairweather and George Melly. He is currently busy working with Michael Parkinson's favourite new band Blue Harlem and this has included 4 years with the wonderful singer Imelda May. They have recently gigged for Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace and have shared the billing with a wide variety of stars including Elvis Costello, Bryan Ferry, Sister Sledge, The Supremes as well as playing for the UK Launch of the Nicole Kidman film 'Australia'.
Sam's latest project is playing for TV presenter (and songwriter!) Nicky Campbell and actor/singer Mark Moraghan (Holby City, Brookside, Harry Enfield etc). Their latest album 'Moonlight's Back In Style' has won universally rave reviews. A second album is in production at time of writing.
Sam has been in demand on the lecture circuit speaking to music colleges and universities about the psychology of performance and performing. His lecture: Mind, Music and Mastery covers everything from dealing with stage-fright to accelerated learning techniques specifically tailored for musicians young and old.
A festering fascination with the chromatic harmonica has led him to buy one and have a go... watch this space.....
