Sam A Brown is a professional drummer/percussionist currently residing in the South West of England.
According to his mother he was a 'knife and fork drummer' from an early age, and whilst still at school found himself playing in local bands, pit orchestras and studios. Right through his early teens his time was equally divided between drums and trombone, but by the time he was 19 he decided to concentrate on drums. Jazz and contemporary music education was virtually non-existent in England at that time so he applied for and was subsequently awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.
Whilst at Berklee he studied and graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Arranging. He also developed a keen interest in psychology and took the opportunity to study this on Berklee's 'general electives' program. Continued research into performance anxiety, hypnosis and NLP resulted in the production of the self-help CD Self Hypnosis for Musicians.
After graduating and returning to England he worked his way up the ranks of the local and not-so-local scene and wound up playing with musicians such as Georgie Fame, Zoot Money and Alan Price.
His growing reputation led to gigs on the London Jazz scene with Jim Mullen, Guy Barker, Sax Appeal, Barbara Thompson, Alan Barnes, Don Weller, Mornington Lockett, Gerard Presencer, Alan Skidmore, Jon Etheridge and Bobby Wellins to name a few. He was also in demand as a session player working for personalities such as Bruce Forsyth, Kenny Lynch and Jimmy Tarbuck. He also has a string of TV and Radio credits to his name.

Whilst continuing to pursue his career in performing he has taken time out to teach both privately, at colleges and on residential courses. This wealth of experience as a teacher, coupled with his research into the psychology of learning and performing music has inspired him to produce the SELF HYPNOSIS FOR MUSICIANS CD.
He has recently toured internationally with Israeli Saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and with Digby Fairweather & George Melly. He is currently busy touring with Michael Parkinson's favourite new band Blue Harlem featuring the wonderful Imelda May. Check out one of the band's legendary gigs at the 100 Club in Oxford St. They have recently shared the billing with a wide variety of stars including Elvis Costello, Bryan Ferry, The Supremes and many more.
Since the launch of the CD Sam has been in demand on the lecture circuit speaking to music colleges and universities.
A festering fascination with the chromatic harmonica has led him to buy one and have a go... watch this space.....
